Laird's Arms Pub - Matjiesfontein

By Jon on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 - 03:30 pm: Edit Post

The Lairds Arms has had quite an interesting history. From its origins as a Carpenter's shop during the construction of the Village during the late 1800's, to a Butcher's shop, to a Recreation room for Royal Navy sailors on leave from Simons Town; one could say this pub has seen it all. Nowaday's the Lairds Arms is a fully functioning Victorian Pub, complete with massive mirrored bar and counter, 1902 cash register and Pierre Nola piano.

The hospitable barman, Abraham, is full of tales while tourists and visitors enjoy country pub lunches and snacks, which are served all day. One of the chefs' main specialities, is the famous Karoo Lamb Curry.

The pub is full of the warmth and gaiety of a Victorian country pub. After one or two cold beers, its hard to believe that you are not in England.

The Laird's Arms is open from 10 am. till late
