The Latsky Radio Museum, Vanrhynsdorp, South Africa
A veritable paradise for the radio lover, the museum is a number one tourist attraction in the historic part of the little town of Vanrhynsdorp, about 350km to the north west of Cape Town.
This museum houses something of everything. Mr Louis Latsky, retired schoolteacher, has amassed a collection of some 200 radio sets ranging from the domestic to the military and professional receivers. In addition, a substantial display of associated items is found. For instance, rare and early vacuum tubes include Van der Bijl tubes and Loewe multiple tubes.
Pride of place in the museum goes to Mr Latsky's collection of homebuilt replica items - small receivers, power supplies, etc. constructed in the style of 1920s homebuilts. This work is Mr Latsky's chief occupation and ensures that the museum receives a fresh supply of exhibits.
